The Virgo-Pisces Axis

As I write this, my little Radio Shack timer is ticking down the minutes. In an effort to bring more focus to my Pisces-heavy chart, I sometimes set a timer when I want to get a task done.  I tell myself something like, "I'll work on this project for 90 minutes, and see where I am at that point."  There's power in thus dividing days into increments if it helps accomplish practical tasks.

Yet the value of some things cannot be timed, measured or analyzed. Sure, we may be able to determine scientifically how long or how well we sleep, but we laugh at Steven Wright's quote because the idea that we can make "mistakes" while sleeping is absurd.  Sleep is one of the few places, in addition to meditation, prayer and art making, to which we can retreat from the realm of critical analysis.  

This month and next, with the New and Full Moons in the signs of Virgo (8/23, 9/22) and Pisces (9/7), our focus is on properly choosing the right times for either analytical, organized, detailed, intellectual, practical, efficient action (Virgo) or imaginative, restful, intuitive, romantic, emotional experience (Pisces).  Balancing the discrimination and detail-focus of Virgo with the insight and compassion of Pisces will be our overall aim, especially in the houses where Virgo and Pisces fall in our charts (see sign forecasts).  Both Virgo and Pisces emphasize service; the trick is to determine what kind of service is called for at a given moment.  Sometimes a good night's sleep or taking time to paint images from a dream are the best contribution one can make to oneself and others.

The first pass of Saturn opposite Neptune occurs August 31 at 17 degrees Leo-Aquarius.  This tug-of-war between the practical (Saturn) and the imaginative (Neptune) will reinforce the theme of balancing attention to practical matters with creative or compassionate expression, and will recur Mar 1, 2007 at 20 Leo-Aquarius; and finally on June 26, 2007 at 21 Leo-Aquarius.  

Pluto stationary direct on Labor Day, September 4, reminds us to move forward to express our power effectively without manipulation.  Expect emotions to be intense near this day, as well as near the Lunar (9/7) and Solar (9.22) eclipses in Pisces-Virgo.  Balancing work and leisure, cleaning and organizing, applying detailed craft or analysis to artistic/poetic/imaginative entities, as well as paying attention to health regimes and staying flexible and open to change are themes for the month.
