Desperate Saturnians

Ever visit someone's home and not feel comfortable?  Maybe the home was adequately clean, sufficiently decorated and great for the owners -- it just didn't feel like home to you?  That's how our friend Saturn likely feels making his sojourn through the sign of Cancer. He's been trekking along in the watery sign unfamiliar to his basic nature since June 2003, and won't make his final exit from Cancer this time around until July 2005.

Saturn likes things straightforward.  Disciplined.  Solid.  Regimented. Formal.  Practical.  Not watery, deep and personal like the sign of Cancer.  Placing Saturn in Cancer is like trying to erect a building on top of the ocean -- even if the building turns out fine it won't stay stable very long.  We might even say that from the last 1.5 years soaking in all that watery subjectivity and emotion, Saturn in Cancer can feel downright desperate.  We're seeing a lot of desperate actions these days -- desperate politicians, desperate insurgents, even a television show perfectly descriptive of Saturn in Cancer called Desperate Housewives. These representatives of Saturn in Cancer may not know quite how to find their foundations.

This month at the New Moon in Capricorn opposite Saturn in Cancer and square Jupiter in Libra we have an opportunity to look at where we might feel a little desperate in our lives, where we might have a touch of emotional disturbance lurking in our psyche that creates imbalance rather than disciplined equanimity or secure footing. Under this New Moon, we have energy available to step outside clingy or wishy-washy feelings decision-by-decision in order to clear out pockets of sentimentality and even desperation we might have outgrown.  We can comfort ourselves if need be, but at the same time put aside excess emotion to lay the cornerstone for what we want to build inwardly and outwardly. Step by step, concrete actions and steely discipline may be in order, so that eventually we will feel the bracing air of the mountain top. Saturn's reality can be harsh compared to the cuddly personal understanding and emotional connectivity of Cancer...but if we don't look soberly at reality, it's hard to build much that's lasting on top of it.

Look to Jupiter's retrograde station February 1 for a "back to the future" effect in which we return to activities, philosophies, relationships or expansion plans we've had before, or in which we decide to put certain plans for growth on the back burner to simmer until Jupiter goes direct in June or reaches its current position again in September.

NEW MOON FORECAST FOR SUN AND RISING SIGNS

ARIES (Mar 20-Apr 20):  The New Moon occurs in your Tenth House of authorities, reputation and career.  You may be more professionally active than usual this month, especially with those in positions of leadership.  Expect some delays and perhaps a feeling of having your wings clipped temporarily as the New Moon and Saturn square your sign.  Show your ambitious, responsible side and remember that people who tend to take things more seriously than you do and think long term are paying attention.
Best days for Aries:  Jan 15-16

TAURUS (Apr 20-May 20)The New Moon occurs in your Ninth House of religion, philosophy, higher education, long-range plans and long distance travel.  New doors may open for you in one or more of these areas. Rethink health regimes, investments or group involvements in terms of how these fit your overall philosophies and growth direction.
Best days for Taurus:  Jan 17-18

GEMINI (May 20-Jun 20)The New Moon occurs in your Eighth House of joint finances, sexuality and secrets.  Reviewing investments, evaluating partnerships, and considering counseling or therapy may be on the agenda.  Rethinking creativity and romance as well as how best to educate any children in your life may be fruitful.  A hard look at reality in relationship and career matters will pay off better than indulging negative emotions.
Best days for Gemini:  Jan 19-21

CANCER (Jun 20-Jul 20)The New Moon occurs in your Seventh House of partnership and marriage.  New partnerships or phases of an existing partnership may emerge at this time.  Rethinking your domestic decor or relations with relatives will enhance your well being. Setting up household or family routines to accommodate health or travel goals will set a good course for the year.
Best days for Cancer:  Jan 22-23

LEO (Jul 20-Aug 20)The New Moon occurs in your Sixth House of work, health and service.  You may want to review your health and fitness regimes or organize your work environment for greater productivity.  Transportation or daily communication issues may need to be discussed as significant factors in work advancement as well; it's a good time to focus creative and financial goals and continue toward them step by step.
Best days for Leo:  Jan 25-26

VIRGO (Aug 20-Sep 20)The New Moon occurs in your Fifth House of romance, creativity, children and play.  New beginnings, breakthroughs or changes may occur for you in these areas.  Launch a creative project or find one you started in the past and bring it back to life. Focus on the childlike creative spirit within and bring a sense of play to whatever you do.  Children may need more structure, attention or discipline this month.  A discussion with a mate or advisor about financial priorities helps put you back on track.
Best days for Virgo:  Jan 27-29

LIBRA (Sep 20-Oct 20)The New Moon occurs in your Fourth House of home, family and property.  You may want to move, reorganize or redecorate your living space.  You may have lots of activity in your home this month or consider redecorating or expanding an area of your home you hadn't considered before.  Opposing needs between work and family life may become more pronounced and the solution may lie in taking more time for yourself individually, to write in a journal or hit the gym.
Best days for Libra:  Jan 29-31

SCORPIO (Oct 20-Nov 20):  The New Moon occurs in your Third House of local travel, transportation, communication, neighbors and siblings.  Opportunities for change or new starts may emerge in these areas. You may find it easier to link up with others for mutual assistance by telephone, e-mail or fax.  If a particular project or new client doesn't seem to pan out, don't worry -- they may just need time to think about the direction they want to go.  In the quasi-immortal and slightly paraphrased words of the California governor, they'll be back.
Best days for Scorpio:  Feb 1-2

SAGITTARIUS (Nov 20-Dec 20):  The New Moon occurs in your Second House of earned money, possessions and values.  New work or income opportunities may come your way this month.  Group involvements help you discern your true values.  Offering your initiative or your home for group events may prove fruitful.  A heavy dose of fixed sign energy influencing your chart this month enables you to gain traction toward definite goals.
Best days for Sagittarius:  Feb 3-4

CAPRICORN (Dec 20-Jan 20)The New Moon occurs in your First House of action, identity and personal presence.  The spotlight shines on you this month, so use it to your advantage.  Rewriting your resume or summarizing your accomplishments helps you move ahead professionally.  Though you're typically the go-it-alone type, don't forget to pay attention to structure or caution offered by mates or partners this month if you want the best long-term results.
Best days for Capricorn:  Feb 5-6

AQUARIUS (Jan 20-Feb 20)The New Moon occurs in your Twelfth House of spirituality, retreat and behind-the-scenes activities.  You may want to keep a low profile this month and see what your nighttime dreams have to tell you.  Religion, values, philosophy and beliefs may come under scrutiny for you this month, too, possibly due to an encounter with one or more persons in a group to which you belong. Don't allow this to become a crisis of faith, but do evaluate whether you're on the right path for you.
Best days for Aquarius:  Jan 11, Feb 7-8

PISCES (Feb 20-Mar 20)The New Moon occurs in your Eleventh House of friends, groups, business income, humanitarian causes, and long-range hopes and wishes.  Beginnings or changes in these areas may occur for you this month.  Joint finances, investments or sexuality may undergo review this month as well, and you may want to return temporarily to career strategies or relationship approaches with supervisors or important clients that worked well in the past.
Best days for Pisces:  Jan 13
