Turn it Over
Each of us is born with a natural affinity
for one end of a sign spectrum more than the other. For example, some
resonate more naturally to the fixed Spring earth sign, Taurus, and some
more naturally to its opposite sign, the fixed Autumn water sign, Scorpio.
Some of us find it easier to build up the foundations and simple pleasures
that sustain life through individual actions related to land, nature, money
or beauty (Taurus); and some of us find it more natural to tear down outgrown
structures or entities or merge with others in favor of collective possibilities
that are deeper, greater or more powerful in scope (Scorpio).
Though we might simplistically label
Taurus "life" and Scorpio "death," another way we might think of these two
opposing signs is by viewing Taurus as stasis and Scorpio as change. We
need each of these at different times; the best life keeps these in balance
in a constantly shifting interplay of stability and growth.
This month's New Moon in Scorpio calls
us to pay attention to those areas of life we may need to turn over, regenerate,
or let go of for greater gain. It's natural for most of us to fear
this letting go, yet some of us do this letting go and regenerating too readily.
Especially
in the area of life associated with Scorpio in our natal charts, we may be
too eager for change. A person with Scorpio on the first house may
get too many face lifts or image changes; Scorpio on the second house too
many job or income source changes; Scorpio on the third; too much intense
communication when it would be better to let things be; Scorpio on the fourth,
too much trouble settling down or extricating oneself from toxic parents;
Scorpio on the fifth house, too much intensity associated with children or
creative identity; Scorpio on the sixth, over-regeneration of health and
work routines; Scorpio on the 7th, too much secrecy in marriage or business
partnerships; Scorpio on the 8th, too much sex or control over others' emotions
or resources; Scorpio on the 9th, too much turnover of spiritual beliefs;
Scorpio on the 10th, too many career changes or arguments with supervisors
or important clients, Scorpio on the 11th, too many changes in friendships,
Scorpio on the 12th, too much emphasis on spiritual change when material
matters may need focus.
Our current culture, at least in the
United States, tends to be drawn to the penetration (Mars), sexuality and
change of Scorpio, resulting in a kind of relentless pursuit of intensity.
Advertising-fueled culture promotes desire (Scorpio), wanting to turn over the rocks of mystery
and magnetism a little too often, and often has trouble being satisfied
with the steady, simple, natural, straightforward pleasures characteristic
of Taurus. Thus, if we buy into predominant modern attitudes, we may
wind up having a collection of intense experiences, but little that is tangible
or sustaining to show for it.
On the other hand, some static or simplistic
situations (Taurus) do need movement and regeneration (Scorpio). One
reason we're drawn to home improvement shows like Flip That House!,
or movies like Dirty Dancing and novels like Lady Chatterley's
Lover is that something or someone Taurean and simple undergoes a profound
transformation involving elements of danger, yet that in the end reveals
a person, house or relationship of even greater potency or beauty. Sometimes
physical interventions such as surgery, sex or renovation, as well as emotional
interventions such as counseling or psychotherapy, all associated with Scorpio,
are just what's needed to heal a situation and get things moving.
While the Scorpio area of our charts
may hold the greatest power for growth and change, it also suggests caution,
as it's the area with the most potential for destruction if we take it too
far (Extreme Makeover comes to mind!). This month, we can benefit by
the healthy Scorpio practice of "turning it over," much like we would till
the soil (Taurus) to activate the nutrients in static soil and make land
arable again. We can do this by gently exploring what's beneath the
surface in our lives that may provide us with renewed passion (Mars, Pluto,
Scorpio) for living, as well as by turning intense, mysterious or complex
situations over to God, as we understand God, for help in regenerating these
areas in the best possible way. Asking for guidance from the Universe
or a Higher Power remains the best way to maintain a healthy balance point
on the scales of every sign polarity.
In planetary movement this month, Saturn
stations retrograde December 5, bringing a potential 4-month period of review
in career or work efforts and need for greater clarity or structure as outlined
in sign forecasts below.
Jupiter enters Sagittarius for the first
time in 12 years on Thanksgiving Day, bring a year of expansion and growth
related to teaching, learning, travel, religion, athletics, adventure. Reach
far in formulating your goals this holiday season, and for best results include
elements related to understanding foreign cultures, languages or beliefs.
The best antidote to the runaway-train optimism of Jupiter in Sagittarius:
humility.
