That Rainy Day
Some of you may remember when Johnny Carson left the Tonight Show
and Sagittarian Bette Midler sang him a bittersweet good-bye with the torch
standard Here's That Rainy Day. This month's New Moon in Sagittarius,
a forward-looking sign, along with Mercury and Mars still retrograde, grants
us the rainy-day opportunity to take out that folder or box of ideas we've
been keeping for "when we get around to it" and envision what we really want
to see in our future. Not just what we think we should do, or what
we routinely get caught up in doing, but in the big picture, what we want
to do. It's a good month to draw out the important strands
of meaning from our recent experience, to savor a stack of reading
or magazines we may have been piling up, and to draw, paint, photograph
or hold steadily in our mind's eye the next images we want to appear on our
life's canvas. Though Sagittarian optimists such as Bette Midler and Frank Sinatra
ultimately represent hope in the future through aiming high and reaching
for lofty targets, it's only through slowing down and sorting through attempts
from the past and sparkling inklings of what's to come that our aim toward
the future becomes true. Sagittarian activities that may appeal this
month: Speak your truth more warmly and directly, take a hike out-of-doors,
practice archery or darts, watch a funny movie (Elf with Will Ferrell
or Holiday Inn with Bing Crosby come to mind), or sit down to explore
a map, atlas or Travel channel presentation and imagine the wonders
of a far away place. Each day under the rays of the beneficent Jupiter-ruled New Moon
in an adjustment aspect to Mars in Taurus becomes an opportunity to value
ourselves more deeply, and savor the chance we'll have in 2006 to create
